The new human environment
Climate, coronavirus, armed conflicts and hunger – "multilateralism as usual" will not be enough if we want to get a grip on the overlapping crises.

In this essay published ahead of the 50th anniversary of the UN Conference on the Human Environment (Stockholm +50), Alexander Müller, TMG Managing Director, argues that amid a looming food crisis "multilateralism as usual" will not be enough to provide the impetus needed to tackle today's overlapping global crises, and especially the failure of the global community to sustainably address the most basic human rights.
Beyond describing the problem, he states, we need immediate action to support countries acutely threatened by hunger. At the same time, we need to embark on a long-overdue transformation of the food system, which is responsible for destroying the human environment without providing healthy food for all.
