Marai works as a Research Associate for the International Climate Initiative “SDG Integration Project” on Ecosystem-Based Adaptation, with a focus on Guatemala. The project seeks to foster the uptake of more participatory nature-based solutions to climate change impacts. This is to strengthen the resilience of people and the environment. She holds a master's degree in international development and globalization from Maastricht University, the Netherlands.
Marai has gained experience in project-related, hands-on work in development cooperation and project management in Central and South America, Western Africa and Europe. Before joining TMG-Research, she worked in the Peruvian Andes, mainly focusing on participatory monitoring processes of regional poverty indicators, gender equality issues and drinking water services at municipal level. Previously she has engaged in projects regarding rainwater harvesting and integrated water resource management for improved food security in West Africa and Central America.
Her interests and civic engagement evolve around nature protection, environmental awareness and civil society participation.
